In this assignment, we will develop a fictive negotiation between a member of the well-known band member of Metallica Lars Ulrich and the co-founder of Napster, Sean Parker. This negotiation is based on judicial attacks on Napster by many artists. In 2000, Metallica took an open stand against file sharing (P2P: Peer-to-peer), condemning the ancestor of P2P sites, Napster, to cease his activity regarded as illegal. This position slowed the band's career for many years as the P2P experienced a meteoric rise. The hard rock band forced the company, publisher of software for exchanging MP3 files, to remove access to 300,000 users accused of illegally downloaded music clips.
Metallica is an American heavy metal and thrash metal pioneer, formed in 1981. Metallica is one of the groups of the Big Four of Thrash (the Big Four refers to the four largest groups of thrash metal), along with Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax. The group obtained a great success with over 200 million records sold worldwide, including 60 million in the United States. The album Metallica (often called Black Album), released in 1991, was sold to over 30 million copies worldwide and was certified 15 times platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America).
